There are over 650 named skeletal muscles of the body, each of them serving a distinct purpose in allowing people to move, bend, stretch, and lift. You can see how the system works when using a muscles diagram PPT that demonstrates how they cover the skeletal structure to allow people to move and run the automatic systems of the body as well such as the heart. This is why a muscle diagram PowerPoint slide can really help to visualize the process.
There are three types of muscles found in the body, the cardiac, visceral, and skeletal. Each of them performs a specific function.
Cardiac: These are the muscles that run your heart, pumping blood throughout the body. It is an involuntary muscle that is autorhythmic by nature and run on its own. The cardiac muscles are quite strong and built to last.
Visceral: You’ll find these muscles lining blood vessels, the intestines, and the stomach. They tend to be long muscles which are the weakest of the three types. Sometimes called smooth muscles, their job is to move substances through the vessels, stomach, and intestinal tract.
Skeletal. These are the only muscle which are voluntarily controlled. They help the body to move and keep the skeleton intact while performing various tasks.
The Skeletal Muscles
While there are over 650 different muscles, there are those who up the number to 840 if you include the smaller muscles located in a complex muscle grouping. There are 13 major muscle groups that are used for movement.
Upper Body: The abdominal muscles are those located on top of the stomach area, their primary job is to provide proper posture and allow you to sit upright. Just above the abdominal muscles are the pectoral muscles that are most commonly associated with pushing up from the ground using your arms. Your shoulder muscles or deltoids sit to the sides of the pectoral and help you rotate your arms.
To the sides of the abdominal muscles are the obliques which allow you to twist and turn the torso area of your body. Behind the obliques are the erector spinae or lower back muscles which also help with posture and lifting, but also provide support for the body itself. The trapezius muscles are located in the middle to upper back region and help with posture along with pulling objects with your arms which contain biceps and triceps as the major muscle groups.
Lower Body: You’ll find the quadriceps, sartorius, and adductor longus which make up the thighs while the tibialis anterior, peroneus longus, gastrocnemius, and extensor digitorum longus makes up the major grouping in the lower legs.
The neck and head consist of many smaller muscle groups ranging from the orbiculars oculi to the zygomaticus all of which help the body to move about.
The muscular system is intricate and sprawling, and learning about it can be tricky for that reason. With the Muscles in the Human Body PPT, it is easier than ever before to memorize the muscles, as the system is clearly laid out in front of you. The Muscles in the Human Body PPT comes with the ability to change and customize whatever you would like. The entire muscular system is shown, and each muscle group is separated by dark, clean lines that make it simple for students to discern which group is which. The names are clearly labeled as well.
