Japan, an island in East Asia, in the Pacific Ocean, is not really one big island, but consists of roughly 6800 islands, located on the Pacific Ring of Fire. Its capital is Tokyo, the most populous area in the world with 38 million inhabitants. Other big cities include Yokohama, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, Kobe and Kyoto. Japan means “sun origin” and its also often called land of the rising sun.
